The Convention is underway here in lovely Bossier City, LA.  We had a great  morning session with lots of informative sessions including sessions about  Lions on Facebook, the Cubsight Program, being a District Officer, and being  a good Secretary using Electronics.

Lunch was delicious and we were joined by former LA Governor,  Charles  “Buddy” Roemer , who charged the Lions to help make a change in our  Education system.  The dinner was fantastic and our International Guest gave a wonderful speech which reflected on some of his experiences with Lionism related to helping after the 9/11 attacks.  After the dinner,  of course the fun was just beginning as Delta Lions hosted Lions in their hospitality room and we continued to party until the wee hours of the morning.

Sunday morning, we all got up to cast our vote. At the breakfast, we heard a touching speech of appreciation of the Lions from Jinny Henson,  a local comedian spreading a ross the nation.  As convention is coming to a close,  we can say it was a successful one.  Congratulations to all of the newly elected officials our our district and state and we look forward to the things in store for the upcoming year.

Stay tuned for more information on next years convention,  which will be held in Lake Charles, LA from April 20-22, 2012.

As we near the holiday season, the Lions of our district are keeping busy with miscellaneous projects in their community. Many clubs are giving out holiday baskets, giving an extra hand with patients at the Eye Foundation, a variety of Toys for Tots type projects, and even giving dictionaries to young students. It is great to continue to hear the great things that clubs continue to do and we look forward to hearing more of the projects that your club is doing. If you have pictures, stories, or upcoming events, remember to let our webmaster Lion Shawn Foret and our District Newsletter Editor Bob Grace know and they can make sure that your story is published online and in our newsletter. Keep up the great work Lions!

The Lions were in attendance at the 8th annual Buddy Walk held at Zephyr Field. We got to meet with several people attending and running the event and it’s a great group to help support. Hear what they had to say, below.

Recently, Lions from the Rivertown Lions Club assisted in making Kenner’s Rivertown Night Out Against Crime Event a success by volunteering their time and refreshments to attendees. In conjunction with several local organizations including the city, local churches, and other non profit organizations, The Annual Night Out Against Crime event offered a great time for all who attended along with some great food and fellowship. The National Night Out Against Crime is an event observed nationwide in a multitude of communities. The event is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for local anti-crime programs, and strengthen neighborhood-police relations. Congratulations to the Lions of this great club for their efforts to prevent the evils of crime.

Our leadership seminar was a success. We started of by having demonstrations of our cubsight equipment and explanations of the process for putting together a screening. We then broke out into our sessions where we had excellent presentations given about several important jobs in the club and district. We then had a great lunch where we were entertained by the tales of Lion Curt Boudreaux. We then held sessions on submitting referrals for both the Camp and Eye Foundation.
To finish off the seminar, we had an excellent steak dinner and enjoyed the speakings of our International guest, Haynes H. Townsend, as he encouraged Lion Scruggs’ motto for the year “a Beacon of Hope”.
